PONCE, PUERTO RICO 2014
This was our first time experiencing this activity in Puerto Rico. First time in a big open space for a night of this kind. We were not so sure about going due to the things that one can imagine could happen in a society full of intolerance and violence, as Puerto Rico. With all the bad references is given to this “spooky night” by people that “do not celebrate” it, and by those with no so pure hearts that take advantage of these kind of activities to inflict hate, revenge, and all kind of bad situations to others, we needed to be cautious and prepared.
We, my husband and I, were not so sure of going because we were a little bit concern of the things our son may experience out of the so many costumes we imagine we could encounter in an open, public Halloween Night. Good thing is, we have a great communication with our son and we talk about everything, he was there with us, to answer questions on the spot. He is not a small child.
So, around 7:00 PM we decided to go, and one friend accompanied us as well. As soon as we got near La Guancha area, we faced the traffic building up. We waited patiently for our turn to get into the parking lot area, good thing, the police had a good control of the traffic. We parked and as soon as we got out of our vehicle, we started to see the so many individuals with all kind of costumes.
The more we got closer to the kiosks and “el tablado” the more costumes we enjoyed. Some creative, some scary, some funny, some sexy, some fresh, religious, demonic, etc. All ages, from children to adults were present most of them in some kind of costumes.
I have to mention that the energy there was good and relax. While we were there we observed a good behavior among all participants and attendants there. People wearing costumes were very amicable letting others take photos of them and with them, without a single opposition to it.
I enjoyed the couples that were dress up with the same theme, my favorite couple, the firefighters, “los bomberos”. We also had a chance to find Ken- the rocker. We found some of our friends as well. My son’s favorite costume was a soldier. And much more.
There was live music by a band on a high stage, giving a very familiar environment to the area. Also, I have to mention, that the kiosks of La Guancha have a great variety of food, and criollo snacks, and all kind of drinks that you can enjoy.
We left La Guancha before midnight and it was all well by that time. We will definitively do it next year if we are still around.
Enjoy the photos we took of Halloween Night 2014 at La Guancha de Ponce, P.R. (Knock yourself out)
